Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: A Delicious Summer Patio Restaurant Option

June 18, 2018 by Valerie Lugonja 9 Comments

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: A Rural Refuge amidst our Urban Landscape

Have you been to Jagare Ridge Clubhouse for dinner? Why not? Look at that gorgeous salad!

The menu is extensive and appealing. The setting is sublime. Have you thought of the Jagare Ridge Clubhouse as a lunch or dinner option? If not, now is the time.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Refuge

The prestigious entrance to Jagare Ridge Golf Club is on Ellerslie Road South at  14931  – 9th Avenue (9th Avenue is actually Ellerslie Road SW) and easily accessible off the Anthony Henday.

Turn in and drive through the gate.

Just on the other side of the entrance, the pastoral welcome beacons a reprieve from the stressors of urban life.

A glorious sunny afternoon in the city, through the entrance, I find myself driving down a tree-lined path guiding me over a simple resplendent landscape. I pulled over and stopped my car, opened the door and just stood for a moment. Silence. Bird chatter. The scent of young pine needles.

I park and am eager to meet my dear friend, Marie, for lunch. Nature does nurture. I have just arrived and am already edified by the natural beauty of these surroundings.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Beauty

I have been here before, many times, but every time, the grounds take my breath away. Today, the carts are lined up for a tournament.

The pool and waterfall in the centre court ripples calm, yet inspires exuberance as natural beauty fosters a “get up and go” energy.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse

The Jagare Ridge Clubhouse is to the left, and the Pro Shop to the right, above.

I turn to see Marie has parked and is finding her way to the Clubhouse.

The entrance to the Clubhouse connects to the Pro Shop and as Marie is golfing at 1:30, we have arrived a couple of hours prior to enjoy a relaxing lunch together on the Jagare Ridge Clubhouse Patio. Wait until you see it.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Clubhouse

We celebrated 50 years of friendship in September of 2017. Our daughters are friends and now our grandchildren play together. I know, I know. How can she possibly be a grandmother? She has aged much better than me. We are so fortunate to be the keeper of one another’s memories and to have shared so much with each other over our lives. And, today? Just a lunch.

Look at that patio! It is spectacular, and definitely the place to be; however, I confess that I usually do prefer to sit indoors if it is too hot outside. Air-conditioning is a beautiful thing.

The fresh flowers on the table with the sweetest little presentation are so welcoming.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse is wall to wall windows. Great light. Bright. Gorgeous views 270 degrees.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Patio

From the inside, on a day like this, the patio beckons.

Outside we sprinted. OK. Marie sprinted. I hobbled. I am charmed by the simplest things. Isn’t the walkway connecting the Jagare Ridge Clubhouse to the Pro Shop enticing?

The front patio overlooks the course below and offers both sun and shade with an abundance of flower pots lining the railing.

Wherever you look, hanging pots, flower beds, large potted arrangements.

Completely irresistible. We found our table in the sun, and the service was instant.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Menu

The menu is full of inviting choices at reasonable prices.  If you want a more intimate view of the menu, you will find it here. It was tough for me to decide. The heat takes away my appetite (hard to believe, I know), but I wanted to know immediately what the Jägare Dip was. I love nachos but restrained myself. The Grilled Pita Wrap, the Beef Dip, the Burger and the pasta dishes were harmonious in calling my name. Again, restraint. Each was so appealing.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse

Marie ordered the delectable West Coast Salad.

I really was not hungry, but I love tasting. So, I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich to bring home for Vanja. Yup. I had a bite. I don’t eat meat, but come on? Pulled pork? It was deee-lish-ous!

He said it was the best pulled-pork sandwich he had eaten. He even mentioned the bun, “It was the perfect soft texture and flavour for the sandwich.”

The crisp tart slaw complemented the sweet smokey pulled pork perfectly. I do eat soup, so for my side, I had the Tomato Bolognese Soup. I could have had fries or a salad, but soup is my thing.

Somehow, I heard “Tomato Bisque” so I was not expecting this richly textured and tasty bowl of goodness. What? This is the best Tomato Bisque I have ever had!

I asked again, what was the soup? “Tomato Bolognese Soup.”  OK. Not a bisque. It was an unforgettable cup of soup. Vanja has already mentioned the pulled pork sandwich a couple of times, so I think that was an unforgettable taste experience for him, as well.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Possibilities

On the patio, we were overlooking the lower patio. Gorgeous, no? The possibilities at Jagare Ridge Clubhouse are many. There is meeting space available Spring through Fall, small intimate weddings in the off season and Christmas parties can be arranged.

Look at the hills beyond the patio. There were golfers putting on that green just under the sky as we were lunching.

Time to go. The regal and expansive portico frames the roundabout in front, from the Clubhouse to the Pro Shop, and offers yet another moment to pause.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Unexpected

Walking under the portico, I spied a birdhouse. Can you see it, above?

Nature’s gifts present themselves in the most unexpected moments at Jagare Ridge.

With such a splendorous house built for birdies, this mama bird opts for its own nest atop the light beside the Snack Shack. How perfect.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Snack Shack

Marie getting her water before she golfs. A convenient little place for a bite.

A big hug goodbye and back to my car past the lovely flowerbeds and streams.

Jagare Ridge Clubhouse: The Satisfaction

Edified by the quiet and unassuming sustenance that nature offers, and with a full tummy, I drive home…

…grin at the blooms potted behind the welcoming sign to bid one farewell…

,,, and take a last look at the gate before turning to face the city traffic that will route my way home. What a great place for a lunch or dinner. Cannot recommend it enough.

I am so glad you had such a good time, in such a beautiful place. :~D

The soup and the salad look and sound delicious!
Are you going to be doing some copycat recipes on these two?

The salad looks pretty straightforward, what was the dressing like?

Would really love the recipes as close as you can get!

      Hi Charlie,
I didn’t taste the salad! That was silly! I will see what I can do.
Thanks for chiming in. You now know where to go for a lovely bite if you are ever in Edmonton in the summer!
      Sincerely,

Valerie, your pictures are spectacular. You do such a fabulous job. I’m pretty bad on that score. The food also looks great. I hope you will replicate some of these dishes. And as an after note, don’t sell yourself short. I love how you are letting your hair go natural. It suits you and looks great. Like the rest of us just keep trekking and continue to create marvellous things.

What a lovely message, Diana! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart! I just might try my hand at that soup in the fall! I would LOVE to get my hands on their pulled pork recipe. I will work on that.
      Your message made my day.

Soup for dinner! Summer Dinners are the perfect t Soup for dinner!

Summer Dinners are the perfect time to test out my creation of this homemade preserved Asparagus Soup Concentrate on the family and it was a slam dunk! It is not a fresh asparagus soup. It is a concentrate, re-constituted with added ingredients that enables a seemingly fresh homemade soup later in the year with little effort. The finished soup is a delicate blend of flavours with a more subtle asparagus note than a fresh asparagus soup would present, yet renders a compelling appeal that consistency evokes that same strong pleasurable response.
